Summer Goal Update

As many of you know, my goal for the summer was to run a faster 5K.

Here is the progression of my races (didn’t include all previous races):
First 5K ever: 40:49 (13:08 pace – Best Damn Race 2/2/13)
PR (before summer training) in April: 36:50 (11:51 pace – Hudson Rotary Gopher Run 4/20/13)

Summer Records:
Rap River Run: 33:37 New PR
Port to Park #2: 32:45 Even Newer PR
Dunedin Midnight Run: 32:02 PRs keep coming
Bridge of Lions: 34:25 – this one was HOT and Humid!!
Tour de Pain: 33:10 ** This race was the second in a three race series. I had run a 4 mi beach run the night before!
Birthday Run (St Pete Beach Summer 5K Series #3): 32:35 ** on slanted beach!

Well I have successfully reached my goal of a faster 5K. I believe if it hadn’t been for the heat of summer I would have been able to get a sub 30 5K! I will aim for this during the fall season!

With a stronger core (thanks to Caitlyn’s plank challenge and TurboFire) I was able to run for longer periods at a faster pace! Not only that but I had the confidence to run without a shirt. The heat and humidity helped push me in this direction but I felt confident enough in my body!
