This past Sunday, the teenager and I made the short trip to the USF area of Tampa to visit MOSI (the Museum of Science and Industry). While we have visited MOSI for the Museum side or for a special movie in the IMAX theater, we have not taken advantage of the Ropes Course and Zip Line yet.
Let me first tell you that heights are not my strong suit. I was a little nervous when I received an email from the MOSI staff about the opportunity, but I knew that my teenager would love it!
After putting our stuff in the free lockers provided by MOSI (can’t have anything in your pockets!), we were harnessed in! During the entire experience you are attached to the structure with a tether line the entire time. There are three levels of various obstacles. Each one is different – some are a little easier and others require much more skill. While I maintained on the first two levels and enjoyed the easier obstacles, my teenager went all over the place and tried almost all of the obstacles! She was a monkey!
I attempted to venture to the third level in order to partake of the Zip Line, but was… well, I’ll just say it – TOO CHICKEN! I am not a fan of heights and did very well to stretch my limits by going on the first two levels. Once I realized, I wasn’t going to be able to make it to the top, I ventured back down so that I could take a few photos of the teenager. I got to take some photos and video of her on the Zip Line!
Overall – a very good experience! The teenager certainly explored the Ropes Course more than I did. This would be a great activity for a family afternoon trip or a group of kids (Girl Scouts, Church group, etc). As we were getting ready to leave, a larger group came in and it was neat to see them cheer each other on and work together to challenge their fears and reach the top! You can purchase tickets for reasonable prices in addition to your MOSI ticket or simply as a stand-alone activity. Of course, if you go for the day, I would recommend adding it on to your MOSI ticket!
