Marathon Bound

200 days from today I will run my first full marathon!!

The interesting part of training for a marathon is that I have to start the training in the heat of summer!

So when does it start? I will start my 18 week Hal Higdon Marathon Plan on July 28th, 2014.

Have you lost your mind? Yes, don’t worry, I’ve done all the research to stay as safe and healthy as possible throughout this process.

What are my goals for running a marathon? To prove to myself that I can. I have been so impressed with how my body has handled the last year and a half. I’ve had a few little bumps, but my body has amazed me around every turn. My goal is simply to finish. I will use my Nike Watch, but I don’t intend to push for a ridiculous time goal. I want to finish. I want to put a marathon medal around my neck.

Every week I will post how I did. I’m using the training plan above as a guideline and don’t intend to beat myself up if I am unable to hold exactly to it. I have two kids, a husband, a full time job and will have to make it through open enrollment (our busiest time of year at work) in October. Here’s to 26.2 miles!

  1. You got this! Let’s meet up for some runs! I’m training for three marathons (Chicago, NYC and Space Coast)…you know for fun. 😉

  2. You will do great! The mental preparation is half the battle and you seem to have things planned out. I used the Hal Higdon for my 1st marathon last year. I did the Novice 2 and my only regret was the long run only being 20 miles. I don’t know if it was a training or fueling issue, but I hit a wall at 18.

Definitely incorporating more yoga and strength training this time too.

    Which marathon are you doing?

  3. Congrats!!! I used Hal Higdon’s training plans before. They’re great!!!
I feel the same towards training sometimes. It’s definitely difficult when you have the family duties. I wish you the best.
