Make Allowance

Something about weddings make me want to get married all over again… to David.  I would do it over and over if I could. 🙂  That overwhelming feeling of standing at the alter (or the beach in our case) and knowing that this person knows you… and loves you anyway!

I went to a wedding today that was picture perfect!  The ceremony was so genuine and traditional, yet non-traditional.  There were several passages that they read… none of which were your ‘traditional’ passages for a wedding, which suits the bride just perfect!  One of them was Colossians 3:12-17.  I have never heard it at a wedding, but after hearing it and processing – it is perfect.

It was meant for the early church – how to interact/react to each other as human beings.  Something that I learned, in our short almost 3 years, is that you give more grace to other people than you do with your spouse… how backward is that?  Perhaps you are a person full of grace and exceed – that is not me… David would agree.  The verses that stuck out to me were 13 and 14.

Colossians 3:13-14
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

I think the phrasing is best in the New Living Traslation: Make allowance for each other’s faults.

It isn’t simply that we are putting up with one another, but we SHOULD BE the most in tune with our spouse’s faults or short comings… and make an allowance for them being human. David loves me more than I could ever asked to be loved, but there are moments when I need to remember that this is the reason that I love him and give allowance for his faults – which are very few I might add.

Congrats Sherlyn and Henry!!
