You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor.
James 3:18 (The Message)
So in this notion of ‘community’ or ‘living relationally’, what is the hardest part? “The hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor.”
I haven’t liked ‘The Message’ version for several years, in some places it waters down truth, however there are some passages where the message is magnified or clarified perfectly! I believe this is one of those verses.
If we all got honest, we are not always lovable or perfect… And this speaks directly to that, especially in the church. We have to work hard at it sometimes, make a point to love on people and extent the ‘friendship’ arm to those that perhaps we wouldn’t have selected as friends. What if God had hand picked that person to speak truth into your life or what if it is the other way around, what if they are dealing with a situation that you might be able to provide support and comfort for.
We never really get to understand the end result of God’s plan until we get there. So, is there someone that God has called you to be a brother or sister in Christ to… But you have resisted because they weren’t ‘like you’?
I am speaking to myself when I say: Get over yourself, because it isn’t always about you – get to the hard work God has called you to!
