This past weekend, I ran the Gate River Run with my mom. We left on Friday morning and got to spend some time on the beach!
Then we ventured to the expo to pick up our packets. I got to meet Mr Hal Higdon. I wasn’t sure it was him at first, so I just walked up and asked if it was really him. I talked with him for a minute about my impending marathon at the end of the year. Later I noticed the sign on the other side of him that said “Meet Hal Higdon!”
We carbed up with an amazing seafood and pasta dinner and got to bed fairly early. There may or may not have been a close call of running out of gas on our way to dinner. Making memories!
Last year, we arrived with plenty of time to spare. So this year we headed out to the race later in the morning… Bad choice. Now we did make it in time to use the restroom and find our start group with no problem, but there was little time to spare. We inched closer to the start of the country’s largest 15K and were off!
This course is beautiful and amazing. It had two magnificent bridges and lots of miles through the neighborhoods of Jacksonville. The first bridge, in mile 2, has a large grate in the middle and freaks me out! This year I knew it was coming and jumped up on the sidewalk early!
The funniest part was when we tried to leave. We parked in a parking garage on the 3rd, almost 4th, floor. After backing out of our parking spot, we sat still for about 25 minutes. I went down and assisted with traffic control. Not kidding. There were two exits and the idiots on the first floor were only using one! I helped them and we were out after another 20 minutes or so. 🙂
We certainly made some unforgettable memories!
