At the end of 2013, I encountered my very first stress fracture. I listened to the doctor and recovered fully before running again. Then I started 2014 off with a bang with two half marathons on back-to-back weekends in January! The last three months have been filled with sparatic races and minimal training runs. I haven’t been running during the week like I should be to really be prepared for these races. I managed through and even got a couple of new PRs (personal records!).
This weekend I am running my second Iron Girl Half Marathon (6th half overall!). I have put enough effort into the last two weeks to be better prepared for this race, so I am confident on finishing strong. With the four bridges in this scenic race, I am not optimistic for a new PR, but a girl can dream!
So what’s the change… I’m going to be doing a second round of TurboFire! Last summer I used TurboFire three to four times a week to strengthen my core, but I’m going full force this time. I’m going to follow the training plan! I might run one day a week, just to keep my legs accustomed to running.
Why am I doing this? Because at the end of July I will start my marathon training and my mileage will only increase from there. I’d like to regain some of the core strength that I had a year ago to be in peak shape to start my marathon training. I’m also in need of a little break from running. I enjoy it, but am looking forward to a change – an intermission if you will!
