So far… I can run for 3 minutes without dying and I feel amazing!
Why didn’t I do this sooner?!
I am sleeping better… waking rested… have energy for a day with my students… have energy left over to hang out with my family… and have energy and motivation to run/walk every night!
I have been pushing myself and running as close to 3.1 as I can – four times a week (sometimes 5, depending on the week)! I have my time down to 40 minutes. I have also changed my training app. The couch to 5K is great, but there are days that I want to go past the time/distance that they have allotted. I am now using Run Keeper, which allows me to set up similar plans (run for 3 minutes, walk for 1 minute, etc.) to repeat until I am ready to stop, but also keeps up with my total time and my pace (correctly, the couch to 5K app was not very accurate on my pace!)
I shared with a few of my co-workers that I was going to be running a 5K soon. I found out there is a lady that is also doing the Gasparilla 5K and will be training to run the Disney Princess Half next year! There is another lady who used to do sprint triathlons and she needs someone to run the 5K portion of the race – potentially in June! So it has been a great source of encouragement and another topic of discussion with my co-workers!
David and I registered for a last minute 5K next Saturday, February 2nd in Safety Harbor. While I don’t expect to run the whole thing, I am excited to complete one – hopefully in under 40 minutes!
As with any new sport or adventure – there will be new gear! My wish list right now: a new running stroller (with a non-stationary front wheel) and an iPhone 5 arm band!
Do you have any good running gear that you love and can’t live without?
